Manhunt After Botched Bank Robbery Shootout
A man is on the run after a botched attempt to rob a Spanish bank left one police officer dead and another injured.
Two robbers targeted a branch of Caixa Galicia in the town of Caniza, 370 miles northwest of Madrid.
But before the pair could get inside to steal any money, they set off the security alarm.
A patrol car was alerted to the attempted break-in and sped across town to the bank.
As the Civil Guard officers arrived they became embroiled in a gun battle with the robbers.
One of the men was wounded and later arrested.
But as one officer suffered fatal injuries and the other took a hit, the remaining robber was able to escape on foot.
Police are continuing to search the town and surrounding area in an attempt to capture the missing man.
