Stampede Of Spooked Horses Injures Dozens
Around 100 terrified horses have stampeded at a torchlit parade trampling 44 people – mainly children – leaving one girl fighting for her life.
Dozens were hurt after being unseated when something spooked the horses they were riding at the night procession in Germany.
Around 100 children – aged between eight and 17 – and six adults were at the event in Emsland.
One 14-year-old girl was critically injured, but her condition has now been described as stable.
Exactly what frightened the animals is being investigated, a police spokesman has told television channel N-TV.
However German media has reported that one of the adults dropped a burning torch.
The terrified horses were eventually rounded up while the injured people were taken to hospital.
