EastEnders star Steve McFadden has been arrested following a complaint that he harassed a woman.

McFadden, who plays hardman Phil Mitchell in the BBC One soap, was arrested at his lavish home in North London on Wednesday.

After being questioned, he was bailed until January 11th 2011 on condition he does not contact the woman concerned.

It is believed the complaint was made by his ex-partner, Dr Rachel Sidwell, who is the mother of the actor’s 17-month-old daughter Amelie Tinkerbell.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said a 51-year-old man had been arrested ‘in connection with alleged harassment to cause violence against a female’.

The News of the World reports that this is not the first complaint police have received from Dr Sidwell about McFadden’s behaviour, but that he has denied any wrongdoing.

McFadden is one of the longest-serving actors in EastEnders and has been involved in a series of high-profile storylines since joining the soap’s cast in 1990.
