Stepdad Arrested After Girl Dies In Fire
A 37-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a fire at a farm that claimed the life of two-year-old Isobel Dobson.
It is believed the man being held by police is the girl’s stepfather, who had tried in vain to rescue her.
West Yorkshire Police said the blaze was now being treated as suspicious and inquiries were ongoing to determine the cause.
Isobel died on Friday evening after she became trapped in a burning van at Hessle Farm in Wragby, near Wakefield.
She was in the vehicle with her one-year-old stepsister when the fire broke out.
Her mother and stepfather rescued the younger child, but were unable to get to Isobel as they were beaten back by flames, police said.
The man and surviving child received treatment for burns at Pinderfields hospital in Wakefield and were later discharged.
Ten fire engines were sent to the farm at the height of the blaze.
A joint investigation was being carried out by West Yorkshire Police and West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service.
