A young model fell to her death from an apartment balcony at a hotel being used by delegates attending the Labour party conference.
The 23-year-old, who has been named in reports as Latvian model Laura Pahomova, plunged nine floors to her death at the Light Boutique Aparthotel in Manchester.
A number of people in the city for the party conference had been staying at the hotel complex, where the model is thought to have rented an apartment.
She apparently fell from one balcony onto another nine floors below and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police have launched an investigation into the tragedy, which happened on Sunday morning, but said they are not treating the death as suspicious.
The hotel has 55 serviced apartments on its upper floors as well as some penthouse accommodation.
Labour delegate Dina Livingston told the Lancashire Telegraph: “I was in my room having a nap when the police knocked on my door. They said a woman had fallen on to a balcony and died.
“I think they were unsure whether it was an accident or not and were asking all the guests what they had seen. It’s harrowing for someone to lose their life like this.”
Ms Pahomova reportedly came to the UK from Latvia several years ago to study and live in Blackburn.
A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: “On September 30 at 11.40am emergency services were called to a block of flats in Joiner Street, Piccadilly Gardens, following reports a woman had fallen from her balcony.

David Beckham has admitted he’s “tempted” to move home to the UK after getting homesick for some British traditions.
Our finest export moved his family to sunny LA over five years ago after signing a contract with LA Galaxy. Despite recently renewing his contract with the club it sounds like David might be having some regrets about his cross-Atlantic move. Whilst speaking to reporters at a recent visit to a London school, Now magazine reports Becks as saying:
“I am always tempted to come back to England but it’s a critical time for the children”
“I do miss London – and going for pie and mash with my mum and dad, and also going to see my nan.”
David’s love of some East End grub is no secret, on his trips back home his favourite London pie shop is always amongst his first stops. From the looks of it though David might have to make do with the sporadic trips back to Blighty as his family seem to have settled into US life.
Lindsay Lohan is back at work following her collapse last night, which she has blamed on her crazy filming schedule.
The actress has blamed extreme exhaustion for her terrifying collapse in a LA hotel room yesterday. She has since taken to Twitter to blame her hectic schedule, posting that she worked “85 hours in 4 days” on the set of her latest film ‘Liz and Dick’.
Apparently Lindsay had been filming for two days in a row with very little sleep and decided to stay at the hotel yesterday to take a nap between scenes.
According to TMZ, medical officers arrived at the scene after Lindsay called the Liz & Dick production team and complained about feeling unwell. A private doctor was then called and before the doctor arrived at the premises they asked the hotel to check on the actress.
When a member of hotel staff knocked on her door and she did not respond, 911 was called by a member of film’s production team. When paramedics arrived on the scene, they reportedly determined that the star was ‘ok’.
Thankfully, all seems well as it’s been reported that Lindsay is back at work today on the set of the Elizabeth Taylor biopic. Maybe get an early night tonight Linds?
